Popular stories about disruption, retold countless times, fail to identify the actual forces that take down market leaders. When the stories are wrong, the lessons are wrong – and the opportunities slip past.
In Disrupt Disruption, Pascal Finette calls bullsh☠️t on the popular narrative and lays out the actual dynamics of disruption. Drawing on hundreds of exclusive interviews with successful innovators and leaders who weathered paradigm shifts in their industries, Finette gives you a sharper framework for spotting where disruption actually comes from – and what to do before it lands on your industry.
The result: principles that hold up under pressure, for both organizational strategy and personal leadership.
Disrupt Disruption’s insights come from a four-year (and ongoing) research project at radical. Two years exploring the fundamental forces shaping disruption – which produced the State Change Model of Disruption – followed by two years of in-depth interviews with the most successful innovators and disruptors across industries and geographies.
Challenged by Andy Billings, Head of Creative Profitability at Electronic Arts, who said in one of our first interviews: “Is it really possible to be planful, thoughtful, effective, well organized, and linear in managing disruptive change? When you talk to the people on the front lines, they will tell you that it doesn’t look like what it is being described as in the books.” We set out to find what the strategists and operators on the frontlines actually do.
The result: a body of work distilling practitioner interviews, expert conversations, and literature research into a framework that holds up under real conditions.
As part of our research, we spoke with hundreds of innovators, founders, and operators who’d taken organizations through real disruption. Many of those conversations are now part of our podcast – originally launched as the Disrupt Disruption podcast, now broadened to Built for Turbulence.
Together with our guests, we explore disruption from first principles, identify the actual drivers, and develop practical advice on what to do about it.
